About me:
My name is Terry Dabney. I grew up in the Springfield area for most of my life. I started riding horses as soon as I could walk. Rodeo was always a part of my life but until I was about 14 years old, I was just a spectator. I guess you could say I was a thrill seeker. I tried school sports but I couldn’t see the challenge in one-on-one sports, so I started riding bulls. I have been hooked ever since. When I was 17 years old I moved to Tennessee where I perfected my skills. I regret not buying my PBR permit when I turned 18. I didn’t have anyone to travel with, I couldn’t afford to go by myself, and I wasn’t sure I was ready for the change. If I only knew then what I know now...
I moved back to Missouri near the end of 1999 and started riding every time I could. It took me a while to get things back together. When things are right you won’t find anyone better. In 2003, I led the race for the NFPB Championship all year until an injury to my riding hand set me out for a few months. Ultimately, I finished 3rd for the year. Also in 2003, I won the Championship and Rookie of the Year in the GABR. The next year I finished 15th in the NFPB. Then, in 2005, I broke my jaw and 4 short months later I broke my pelvic bone and still managed to make the finals in the top 10 of the NFPB. In 2006, in the finals I was the 6th go-round winner with 88 points.
I have a daughter and a son that I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world. People used to call me “The Wild Man” but now they call me “The Family Man”. I believe that it’s better to give it all you’ve got and fail than to give up. I take pride in the way I represent myself and in the things I do.
